Frontier Airlines to announce major expansion at RDU with several nonstop flights

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is expected to announce a major service expansion Thursday.
The airport sent a notice to members of the press Wednesday, that a "significant air service announcement" would happen Thursday in Terminal 2.
While officials from the airport didn't identify the carrier, sources close to the situation say to expect an aggressive expansion play by Denver-based Frontier Airlines. Sources say the carrier is supposed to announce flights out of RDU to Houston; San Antonio; Buffalo, New York; and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
All but Houston – currently served by both United Airlines and Southwest Airlines – are routes on RDU’s top unserved markets list.
As talk emerged that RDU was making an air service announcement, transportation activist Joe Milazzo, executive director of the Regional Transportation Alliance business coalition, called any expansion “a tremendous sign of the confidence the carrier has in our airport, our airport’s leadership, and the overall vibrancy and trajectory of our market.”
